Chapter 2

“This place sucks,” Saber muttered as he sat against a gray, metal wall. “I'm bored...how long do we have to stay here?”

“Primus, Saber,” Solstice shook his helm. “Can't you stop complaining for two minutes?  I know this place sucks, I'm bored too, and...forever.”

Saber loudly groaned before hitting the back of his helm against the wall with a loud clang. “At least on Cybertron we could shoot at stuff.”

Brute suddenly walked in. “Then, go find a vehicular mode today.  You haven't done anything since we got here.  Go for a drive or something.”

Saber gave him a cold look, rolling his green optics. “Fine.”

“Thank you, please come again!” she smiled.  As the customer left, her smile disappeared, and so did her energy.  She had been working since eight this morning, and she had to get home.

“Paige,” her manager, Mr. Riley, called. “You're all set.  You can go home.”

“Thanks,” she replied, immediately grabbing her stuff from beneath the counter.  She dashed through the doors before heading out to her car.  She hoped that tonight at least she could get some real sleep.  All week she'd had vivid dreams and nightmares of glowing red eyes, sharp metal teeth, and purple stones.  They were weird, but she was afraid of them for some reason.

Just as she unlocked the door, familiar voices were heard behind her.  She whipped her head around to see three female figures notice her.  Paige’s stomach twisted in fear as she quickly ducked inside her car.  The three girls began to chase after her, but Paige was quicker.  She started the car, put it in gear, and peeled out of the parking lot.  She sighed with relief, glancing back to see they had stopped in the lot.  When she turned her gaze back ahead on the road, she slammed her foot on the brake, and spun the wheel, barely dodging a black mustang with orange racing stripes.

She pulled over to the side of the road, catching her breath and feeling her heart pound in her chest.  Paige then jumped out of the car in time to see the mustang continue its way down the road.  She shook her head. “I'm sorry!” she called, knowing that whoever it was inside couldn't hear her, but she said so anyway.

Paige plopped back into her seat, covering her face.  Tears began to build in her eyes as her mind raced with worry.  She could have hurt someone.  She could have caused an accident.  If she hadn't looked back at the girls it wouldn't have happened.  What if she'd looked on longer?  Her stomach twisted with guilt at all of the awful things that could have happened.  She was just lucky that none of them did.

After collecting herself, Paige slowly pulled out onto the road again, keeping her eyes and thoughts focused on driving.  Once she got home, she wouldn't have to worry about it.  Maybe tomorrow she could just walk to work.  She was wasting gas as it was, and her job was only a mile or so away.  The weather was dry and warm, and she could use the extra money she wasted on all that fuel.

Paige arrived home late, but it wasn't as late as she thought.  After eating takeout, and taking a hot shower, she climbed into bed and pulled out her book.  Her thoughts raced as her eyes skimmed the words, unable to concentrate.  It was weird that the person driving the mustang hadn't reacted to her mistake.  They had just continued driving as if they didn't care or had forgiven her.  Either way, Paige was just glad no one got hurt.

She closed the book before turning off her light.  Tomorrow would be a new day.  That was all that mattered.

“Lookin' good, Saber,” Brute smiled.

“Shut up,” the mech replied, walking by. “I'll be in my room.”

Solstice and Brute glanced at each other, wondering the same thing.  What exactly was Saber's story?  Since they arrived on Earth a few months ago, the two had shared their stories to each other.  But Saber hadn't said a word about himself.  Both shrugged in defeat, sitting down in the gray room.  Brute quickly glanced at his friend. “What did Optimus say?”

“He said that we could stay here until we are needed,” the green mech replied. “They already have too many Autobots at their base, and don't have a lot of room.  So, it looks like we're stuck here until there's some Decepticon activity.”

Brute remained silent for a few more moments before leaning back against the wall. “What did he say about making contact?”

“Just to be sure to call him first,” Solstice shrugged. “If he's not there, call up Fowler.”

“And...if Fowler's not there?” he smirked, as he waited for an answer.

The Autobot guard sighed. “Then, we keep it with us until we get a hold of one of them.”

Brute nodded, still smiling. “Cool.  To be honest with you, Solstice...I hope that does happen.”

Solstice gazed over at his friend with wide optics. “Why?”

The outcast shrugged.  “I don't know.  Maybe, it's because I want to meet one.  But...it's gotta be the right one.  It's gotta be different.  And maybe so that if we do have to catch it, we can see it scared.  But then we get to calm it down, and reassure it.  I just really want to see it terrified...even if it's only for a moment.”  Brute hesitated, looking over at his friend.  Solstice’s optics were narrowed, and filled with slight suspicion.  Brute just chuckled. “Ah, forget it, Solstice.  It's a Decepticon thing, you wouldn't understand,” he winked.

Solstice smirked at the joke, nodding. “Whatever you say, Brute.”

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Paige sprinted through the woods, feeling her heart pound madly in her chest.  Fear pulsed through her legs, making them work as hard as they could.  She could hear the mocking voices behind her, causing her to twist her head around.  They were close, but she was gaining distance between them.  Despite the burning ache in her lungs, Paige pushed herself to run faster.  Up ahead she saw a massive cliff face.  It was the base of the mountain that sat by her town.

The girl glanced behind her once more to see her pursuers far behind, almost out of sight.  If she could make it to the mountain she might be able to lose them.  Paige charged forward, doing her best to ignore the fire that danced in her legs.  Within moments, she reached the base of the mountain, running alongside it in hopes to find a place to hide.

Luck was on Paige’s side.  She noticed a large crack in the gray rock ahead, dashing towards it.  She quickly dived in, realizing that the space was driven deep into the mountain.  Paige struggled forward, feeling the space around her narrow.  When she heard the voices coming closer, she desperately shimmied herself between the walls of the thick rock.  Paige felt the mountain close in on her, crushing her ribcage into her spine.

At last, Paige pushed past the narrow walls, falling face first into the dirt on the other side.  She kept herself in a tight ball, listening to the girls outside. “Where did she go?”

“She probably went that way, let’s go.”

The footsteps dissipated, allowing Paige to finally breathe.  She calmed herself down, feeling her limbs tremble from the fear-fueled sprinting.  She shook her head, hoping she’d be able to squeeze through that narrow gap, again.

Just as Paige was about to stand and leave, she felt the ground beneath her tremble.  This made her stomach twist with worry until she noticed a soft, dim light coming from her right.  It came from further into the mountain.

The girl glanced at the crack to her left, then the light to her right.  Paige figured it would be better to try and find another way out if she could.  She slowly stood to her feet, heading towards the promising light ahead.

After a few moments, Paige saw that the light came from a jagged hole.  She had to duck down to see through it, and found herself staring at a smooth concrete floor.  Curiosity got the best of her and she cautiously crawled through the opening.

Once Paige cleared the gap, she carefully stood up, amazed by the scene before her.  'It’s a missile silo,' she thought. 'Some sort of secret, military base?'

The girl’s eyes searched the space around her.  The concrete floor spread out far and wide, with metal staircases and levels snaking along the walls.  She even noticed small doors leading to other rooms on the walls and along the floor.  It was quiet, too.  She could only hear the soft tap of her sneakers on the gray ground, and her ragged breath.  Everything echoed in the space around her.

That’s when Paige felt it.  She felt as if someone was watching her.  She slowly turned around before she had to lift her gaze up, higher and higher.  Towering several feet above her was what she could only describe as a giant robot.  It’s exterior was a bright, scarlet red with black accents.  The eyes...Paige felt her skin crawl as the deadly, orange eyes watched her every move.  She then watched with shock as it smirked at her.  The robot actually smiled.

“Well, well, well…do we have ourselves an intruder, or am I just seeing things?”

It spoke.  The robot spoke to her.  Paige was frozen in fear.  She stared at the creature that gazed back with a strange darkness swirling in it’s fiery optics.  The giant took a step forward, causing Paige to take two steps back.  Without a second thought, she turned and ran.  She headed for one of the rooms, feeling dread reach her when the handle didn’t budge.

It was locked?  Paige shook her head as the ground began to quake beneath her.  She twirled around to see the giant robot slowly walk closer.  It shook its massive helm with that devious smirk. “You’re not going anywhere, dollface.”

Paige did her best to keep her head level.  She couldn’t panic.  She had to focus.  She saw the large hole she came through on the other side of the silo.  Taking a deep breath, she sprinted forward, dodging a gigantic metal hand that scooped in her direction.

She was almost there.

Something flashed in front of her before she felt her face collide into an invisible barrier.  Paige tumbled back on her rear from the hit, feeling her body finally give in.  She groaned from the aches that danced in her fragile body, slowly sitting up.  The girl glanced around with wide eyes to see herself trapped in a glass encasing of some kind.  She had been caged like some animal.  Paige stood up on trembling legs to see the red robot watching her closely.  To her left, she saw another giant robot.  This one was an assortment of greens and gold, and bore bright blue optics.

“Looks like we caught ourselves a trespasser,” the red one turned to the green robot with a large smile. “So, now what?”

“We follow protocol,” the other replied, standing to its full height.  It was much, much taller than the red robot.  It placed a metal digit to the side of its head. “Solstice to Optimus Prime.  Do you copy?” After a moment of silence, it tried again. “Solstice to the Autobot base.  Does anyone copy?” The robot that had referred to himself as Solstice shook his helm. “Nothing.”

“So, then we try Agent Fowler,” the red one replied listlessly.  It was as if he was expecting this to happen.

Solstice nodded, passing a quick glance to the petrified human girl. “Solstice to Agent Fowler, do you copy?” Another pause. “Agent Fowler, this is the Autobot Guard, Solstice, do you copy?”

“Nothing?” the red one murmured.

“No, Brute,” Solstice sighed with defeat. “Nothing.”

The red one that had been called Brute gazed down at Paige, his smirk widening in a sick fashion. “Excellent.”

“It’s anything, but,” Solstice muttered. “We may as well get some answers.”

Brute stood between the glass the girl was trapped in and his comrade. “Why don’t you go find Saber and let him know?  I’ll try to get some answers from her.”

The green robot sent him a doubtful look before nodding. “Alright.”

Once Solstice was out of sight, Brute turned around and bent down towards Paige’s small, trembling frame.  He smiled at her, causing her heart to jump to her throat.  She didn’t know what to do.  She was stuck in a glass cage, surrounded by giant robots.  No one knew where she was.  No one was expecting her to be anywhere.

Paige realized they could kill her and no one would even notice.

The thought brought tears to her eyes as she did her best to fight the fear.  The massive creature above her edged closer, causing her to back into the glass behind her.  Once she did, Brute clasped a metal hand on the clear roof above before tipping it back and quickly moving the edge along the bottom forward.

This made Paige tumble back, her world rolling around her before she stopped, landing on the bottom of the glass that used to be the roof.  She looked upward to see an open top with those dangerous, orange optics gazing at her with glee.

“Alright, then,” he murmured. “Tell me, human.  Are you afraid?”
and here's chap 2!! Paige finally meets the massive robots, and...is pretty scared. I mean, I would be scared too, wouldn't you? They're giant, alien robots that transform into cars! first contact would be pretty scary O.O
